Would it be worth doing Search Engine Optimization training?

Instead of Search Engine Optimization training should I try and train my self up with all the SEO tips that I can find, the only problem with that is what would work and what wouldn’t there would be no way of knowing or is there?

For what? A funny photos site? A MingleOn site (whatever that is)?

Search Engine Optimization is a myth because what you really have to do to get in the search engines is produce a quality website, like this one. When you do that people link to you and talk favorably about you and the process happens naturally.

If by Search Engine Optimization you mean "trying to beat the search engines" then all I can say is GOOD LUCK! Google has more PhD's working for them than NASA and you won't beat them.

There's a lot of truth in that statement (and thanks for the compliment). The best way to "Search Engine Optimization" your site is to make it quality and simply get the word out. Over time, rankings will come naturally.

However, it is also possible to rank for terms relatively quickly by doing a few simple things better than other people do. So instead of trying to beat the search engines, you should think about it in terms of beating the other websites trying to rank for what you want to rank for.

I suggest using webceo or equivelant to pick away at the competitor sites. It will give you all the keywords, links, and suggestions on their page content to help you beat the competition.

But, if you are thinking you want to rank #1 for the keyword "Mortgage" then it will take years upon years of constant work.

For now a sponsored link is not a bad idea.

This is one of my funnest topics to see on industry discussion boards, where the opinions run the full range of "Great to Duh?" Fact of the matter is this, Search Engine Optimization works quite well, once you have a clue on how to do it, but in this industry it's very difficult because there are a zillion people trying to out ranks everyone else with common terms like: refinance, mortgage, interest rate, home equity loan, bill consolidation loans, debt consolidation, etc.

Since I teach a Live! class on this subject for several years now, I can tell you it was difficult to rank well when our site was an originator, today as a training facility, we rank on page 1 under many seach terms, so my opinion isn't a guess.

Just for jiggles, YOU search these specific terms on a handful of major search engines you know, and see how many times you see the same people in the top 10 ... do ya see WELLS, BOFA, COUNTRYWIDE, WAMU, etc, very much?

And that probably won't change anytime soon. I'd never start an Search Engine Optimization campaign trying to rank for broad terms like "refinance", "mortgage", "loan", etc. Competition is just too tough.

However, more specific terms can be targeted effectively, all it takes is a little research.

I agree with Erik, and just want to throw in my 2 cents on what a “quality” website is when it comes to getting ranked by search engines.

People using search engines have a specific question or problem — and they want a solution, fast. The keywords they use are how they express this. Google (and the other search engines) want to deliver results that give the user the most relevant information for their search possible.

Search Engine Optimization is really just a bunch of educated guesses. The algorithms that determine which sites make it to the top of the pile are secrets that the search companies protect fiercely. But most SEO experts do agree that websites have a better chance of ranking well if they have LOTS of good content.

What is “good” content? It’s content that’s truly relevant to your most motivated prospects. It answers their questions. It solves their problems. And it does it using the keywords that your ideal prospects are typing into search engines.

And once you’ve got a nice informative, keyword-rich page, you still need to title and describe it properly so search engines will categorize it correctly.

Do that, and you've got a quality site. But it takes time. And you’ll need someone to handle the nuts and bolts of optimization and a source of original content that is written to educate visitors and do well in search engines. Even when you do have your site optimized it can take up to a year to see results.

Search Engine Optimization isn't a "quick-fix" strategy, but it works for a lot of people. Good luck to you if you choose to go this route!

This is a hot topic on the net, and it's tough to get reliable info from people who are not BSing you ... so let me give you some hard numbers to chew on.

What we all know is that CONTENT is what's king in a website, the spiders who visit websites from the generic search engines (like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc). go to billions of sites frequentrly to keep their data fresh - with the right web tools you can see them peak at your own site!

Last week for example, our website was visited 1,291 differrent times by the spiders where they looked us over.

This month to date search engine searches found our website many times, we ended up on page one for most searches, in the top 5 or 6 frequently and one or two about 20% of the time -- remember your ranking can and does change DAILY ... what words or phrases would you think people would use to find us (for example)? ... here they are EXACTLY:

... now before you look, let me tell you I was surprised at many of these myself -- this is absolute proof (to me) that the spiders read every single word on every page in our website. This is about 25% of the searches done which resuted in visitors landing on various pages of our website - more than 70% were from google BTW.

So ... the CONTENT really does matter

And a bit more carlo, (for your East Coast way of behaving), this past week our website was spidered 724 times - which means (I'll translate that for you) we had 724 chances of being LOWERED or Raised in ranking on those words & phrases the generic search engines have attributed to our website ... so when somebody says "I rank at XX on Google" - that can last up to one week and then may get changed ... ya know what else? Somebody searched the phrase "coming attractions sweatshirts" on Yahoo this week and WE can up on page one (that's a three word phrase I added to our site 9 days ago)! ... sorta funny how these generic search engines work - if you study them.

What The Industry Needs Today

I've gotten more response and interested prospects in this website than any other search engines. Erik Baty can see my banner clicks in my MBL Ad System and unfortunately he is the only one that can vouch for me on this statement. I average about 5-7 clicks a day and these are hot prospects that contact us week-in and week-out.

Secret, I would make you look soooo silly if you see our headquarters here in San Diego. Ohhh BTW, we also have an office there in Irvine off Von Karman... You should fly by, Peter Pan, so you can see for yourself that we're not running a little pie in a sky business like your wanna be corner venture selling knock-off motivational CD's.
