Networking means you remember, you recognize, and you refer others to their businesses. Fantastic Piece!

Erik,

This is a fantastic piece, thank you very much for putting it up. Networking is an art and you have to practice at it to become effective. It takes alot of courage to put yourself out infront of strangers and feel comfortable with it.

Everyone feels uncomfortable at first but my advice is to keep at it and force yourself into uncomfortable situations like large gatherings. Just remind yourself, underpromise and over deliver. Also, you don't have to ask for business, just introduce yourself. The business will come to you over time.

Networking will bring you repeated business down the road and you get a great feeling when referrals start coming your way. You don't sell rate or fees to most referrals by the way, and they rarely shop you. Now that in itself is a great reason to get out of the office and go grab some biz!

George
