John - looks great! One thing I noticed is that you currently have comments closed on most of your posts. I'm sure you have reasons for this, but just so you know those comments can be a major boost to future SE rankings. The reason for that is because the engines love new, fresh content - even on older pages in their index.
Users posting new comments adds a level of freshness to your site which can be quite helpful. In addition to the freshness aspect, those comments often contain keywords that can further help in your Search Engine Optimization efforts.
If you do turn comments back on, be sure to also activate the Akismet spam blocking plugin from your admin area, to eliminate nearly all comment spam you might receive.
As for getting indexed in the search engines initially, there are a few things you can do to speed the process:
1.
Be sure your blog is automatically notifying the world that you have made a new post, whenever you make a new post. This happens by default in Wordpress, but if by chance you disabled this feature you can re-enable it by going to your admin area, then options, then writing options. Toward the bottom of the page is a section for "Update Services". All you really need in the box there is
http://rpc.pingomatic.com/. Additional notification services can be used, and if you'd like to do that I suggest reading more on the subject as provided through the link in that area.
I've attached a screen shot of the above, to help with further clarification.
2.
Submit your site to free web directories.
Here's a list. This will get you some links and encourage a visit from the search engine spiders.
3.
Send out a press release.
Here's more on the subject. Submitting your release to
PRWeb is the first thing I'd do, but wouldn't neglect notifying the local papers as well. You may or may not get print, but it can't hurt to try. Also, at the very minimum, you'll get your release published on PRWeb's site, with a link back to your site. This will help you and since that site is massive your link should quickly be found by the search engine spiders (which means your site will thereafter soon be visited by the spiders).
That response turned out being much longer than I anticipated.

Oh, by the way, I'll make a post about your new site from my Utah site shortly. That will also help out.
