Good questions, Corey - and thanks for the kind words. Following are the answers:

This is probably information I should have included in the article, but overlooked it somehow. So I'm glad you asked. I've had just over 2000 unique visitors since May and had 9 people fill out the pre-qual form on the blog. I've had a few call me and email me directly so total "response" is about 17, which makes the response rate just shy of 1%.
While the numbers for unique visitors could be better (and will get better as I climb from top ten to top five and then to top three over time), I can't complain about the ROI on 2-3 hours of work and less than $10/mo hosting.
Also, the beautiful thing here is that each new post I make from here out is yet another doorway inviting new visitors to click through to my site. The permanence of every post can bring in thousands of new visitors over the lifespan of the blog.

I'd say the traffic numbers are on target with expectations. Being top ten means I'll get a percentage of the total monthly search volume numbers that I looked up on Yahoo's search tool (linked to in the article). The percentage of click-throughs increases as you draw nearer to #1 so I figure my stats are right for 5-7.
I created UtahMortgageLoans.net primarily as an experiment, but my main focus is on this site, MBL, and a for sale by owner site that enables loan officers to get involved with FSBOs and vice versa (
FSBO3k.com).

Search engine optimization is a highly volatile beast and there are many, many more things that could be said. I suppose one thing that would certainly help is to make your blog's title (within the blog software settings) the same as your domain name.
In other words, my blog's title is "Utah Mortgage Loans", which you can see at the top of each page in the photo of the field. The reasons have to do with the HTML code that your pages consist of, but since that's pretty technical I won't go into it here.
When you get your site set up be sure to let me know so I can check it out and make a post about it from my blog, which will help you get going in the search engines.
