Talking "Certified Mortgage Professional"

I'm considering developing a Certified Mortgage Professional (CMP) designation, for folks who graduate from a CMP course we're considering offering where I work. It would not be fluff, only serious stuff for serious people.

Would you be interested in something like that for yourself?

How would being "certified" as a CMP help with my career? I have only heard about this course on one blog site and don't know anything about it.

Hi Secret,

If there was a way to have CAMB or NAMB acknowledge this certification it would give it more appeal. I am sure that with a head nod from one either of those organizations mean people would consider investing not only their money but their time into becoming certified.

Boy, my fingers are going faster than my brain today. What I meant to say was with a head nod from either of those organizations. People would put more consideration into investing not only their money but their time into becoming certified.

I think it is a great idea that needs some development.

I think it could be good, depending on what the requirements were. State licensing requirements supposedly qualify an individual as a mortgage professional here in Utah, but that's debatable.

I agree with Amanda - official recognition by one of the big organizations would definitely give the certification legs.

How much does it cost for this test? Is it like taking a CCNA(cisco) certification?
Would a employer look at this as a great benefit to add to a company? What is the website so I can check it out in more detail?

Given the depth of our Mentor faculty, and others who I will ask to help develop this Special Project, I know it will be worthwhile. My goal, as of this morning (30 hours since the idea popped into my head), is that those who graduate, will be smarter now and for the rest of their career vs. where they might have ended up. Trade association recommendation, could be a good idea, I agee on that point. The concept needs a lot of evolving, for sure.

IMO,

They need to keep anyone from entering this industry who does not have a finance degree. I am tired of deadbeats getting into the industry and ruining companies reputations. Graduating high school 15 years ago and being a car salesman does not qualify you to be a mortgage representative.

Good Luck

That's too restrictive, being trained is the solution -- today it's Big Commissions to salesmen ... both are mistakes.
