Brokers at Disadvantage Under Proposed Bill

The Ohio Consumer Sales Practice Act has passed the Senate and is pending in the House. Ohio's attorney general said in a statement the bill gives "his office more power to investigate and prosecute alleged violators of the state's mortgage laws." But mortgage brokers contend the bill would "create a severe competitive disadvantage for brokers compared with depository institutions."
