Outstanding residential real estate loans at federally-insured commercial banks and savings institutions were $2.7 trillion in the first quarter, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The level was lower than at the end of 2006, Fdic reported. Noncurrent residential mortgage loans increased during the three months ending in March, the announcement said.
