Welcome to MBL, Silvester! This is the place to find answers to your questions, for sure. I haven't heard of too many people starting their own mortgage company without any experience in the mortgage industry, but if you can do it successfully - more power to you!

I'm not sure what the requirements are in AR, but in some states there are several requirements for opening a mortgage business. Have you looked into what your state requires yet?

Hi Sil, I can't help you much in AZ as we are not licensed there. If you want to do loans in other states, I have branches that keep their own licenses and just use our net branch program for other states.- We are in TX,CA,OK and 29 other states

Hi Florida Man, I have a couple of other branches I brought on, that do all most everything in one county also. Both of them like knowing they could do a loan somewhere else, but they really keep their efforts local.

i agree
working local totally works!!!! It takes a while to build up some credibility, but now im getting 3 loans a month off referrals. I have 12 loans in the pipeline , all local.

If everyone in the country went straight local to their community, or found one that nobody does as their 'territory' -we would all make money!!!!

cheers

Hi Sil,

I hear AZ is one of the best markets in the country, so this may be a great time to get started. I would try to align yourself with some people in other industries.
A car salesmen told me most of his fellow sales people that quit selling cars go on to sell mortgages, so car dealers might not be the worst place to look for LO's to hire.
